Board Members

The members of the board of directors are volunteers. They receive no compensation for their duties. Board members are elected each year at the Annual Meeting.

Edward McKenney

President

My wife Denise and I have lived in the Grovehurst Community for 30 years, and have raised our son, Edward H. McKenney Jr., in this safe and quiet environment. I truly believe in community service in which I picked up trash, reported abandoned/stolen vehicles, participated in campaigns to feed the homeless, and assisted with the Annual City of Bowie – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Program, which was established and implemented by the late President of the Grovehurst HOA—Ms. Joan Christian. I am an active member of Our Savior Episcopal Church, 1616 Irving Street, N.E., Washington, DC.

My wife Sheryl and I have lived in the Grovehurst Community for 27 years. I am a business owner providing services to commercial and government clients.

Jerry Murphy

Treasurer

I am a 25-year resident of the Grovehurst Community and am married with two children. I am a lifelong resident of Prince George’s County. I received my BA degree from Bowie State University and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP™) designation from the College of Financial Planning at George Washington University. In 1996, after leaving the federal government, I formed JDM Financial & Investments, a comprehensive financial advisory firm. My firm manages financial assets for clients across the United States. The firm recently celebrated its 26 years in business. I am proud to be reappointed to serve on the Grovehurst HOA board as Treasurer. For over a decade, I have maintained the Grovehurst HOA financial records.

Dr. Enid Cruise

I have lived in the Grovehurst Community for 26 years and have two sons who were nurtured by the Grovehurst Community in which they were raised. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic with four office locations, two of which are in Prince George’s County. I am the Board President of the Enterprise Office Park in Lanham, MD where one of my offices is located. I am also a member of the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I serve on the Dr. Betty Shabazz Committee that mentors and guides young girls ages 11 – 14 in Prince George’s County. I attend the Unity of Light Church in Bowie, MD. It is my distinct pleasure and honor to serve the Grovehurst Community.

Denise McKenney

My husband Edward and I have lived in the Grovehurst Community for 30 years. I served as a Commissioner and Senior Mediator with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Office of Conflict Management and Prevention, in Washington, DC. My areas of expertise included mediation of collective bargaining agreements between unions and management, workplace employment disputes, training design and delivery, and conflict coaching and systems design. I work actively with Prince George’s County Public Schools assisting middle school students with peer mediation and conflict resolution workshops. I bring 30 plus years of peace-making experience to the Grovehurst HOA Board.

Edward Scott

My wife Deborah and I have resided in the Grovehurst Community for 23 years. I am a former Grovehurst HOA President. Also, I have served as a former Vice-Chairman of the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission. I am a professional architect, carpenter, and contractor. Last but not least, I am a Prince George’s County Building Inspector dedicated to preserving the character and integrity of our community.

Team Green (Samuel, Sam3, and I) have called the Grovehurst Community home for 24 years. I am an educator with 30 years’ experience, so my true passion is seeing young people succeed. I also believe in the power of community service. Therefore, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Grovehurst Board of Directors. Last but not least, the Grovehurst Community is the best kept secret in Bowie, Maryland.
